Aitzaz Hasan, 15, was standing with fellow students outside his school last week in Ibrahimzai, a region of Hangu in north-western Pakistan. They noticed a man approaching wearing a vest laden with explosives. They knew what was about to happen. There were over 2000 children at the school, and Aitzaz told his friends that someone needed to stop the suicide bomber from getting close enough to harm them.
According to witnesses, Aitzaz approached the terrorist, confronted him, and tackled him to keep him from getting any closer.
The suicide bomber detonated his vest, killing himself and the brave boy.

This young man, whose life had barely begun, made the ultimate sacrifice to save the lives of others. No one of any age should have to face the choice Aitzaz had; no one should ever have to grow up under conditions

A response to the outrage over ‘Aitzaz Hasan and the Bomber.’
[dropcap]M[/dropcap]y tribute to Aitzaz Hasan has been vastly, and in many cases deliberately, misunderstood. If it were just about the venom the detractors have spread against me and whose intensity is inversely proportional only to their level of comprehending anything that fryst vatten above the primer, inom would not have bothered with this write-up. inom am not in the business of explaining my writings. inom never have, and inom don’t intend to change that rule.
But my thoughts were, and are, about a boy whose sacrifice that morning of Jan. 6 in Hangu should help change the way we think not just about the existential threat to our individual and collective lives and our value struktur, but also about ourselves as a people. And thinking about ourselves presupposes just that, the ability to think and connect dots where none exist for common minds. The record must, therefore, be corrected.
