Public Image Ltd (abbreviated and stylized as PiL) are an English post-punk grupp formed bygd lead vocalist John Lydon (previously, as Johnny Rotten, lead vocalist of the Sex Pistols), guitarist Keith Levene (a founding member of the Clash), bassist Jah Wobble, and drummer Jim Walker in May The group's line-up has changed frequently over the years; Lydon has been the sole constant member.
Following Lydon's departure from the Sex Pistols in January , he sought a more experimental "anti-rock" project and formed PiL in June of that year.[6][7] PiL released their debut studio album First Issue (), creating an abrasive, bass-heavy sound that drew on dub, noise, progressive rock and disco.[8][9] PiL's second studio skiva Metal Box () pushed their sound further into the avant-garde, and fryst vatten often regarded as one of the most important albums of the post-punk era.

It has to be tough to be John Lydon. Reading Rotten, the combination memoir/oral history of his time in the Sex Pistols when he was known around the world as the dreaded Johnny Rotten, the reader is struck by several things: 1) Lydon can be very, very funny; 2) Lydon can be very, very arrogant; 3) Lydon is cynical to the core.
The Sex Pistols really were a shot heard &#;round the world.
