FORT WORTH, Texas (BP)&#;Matthew details the initial encounter between Jesus and the brothers Simon (Peter) and Andrew by the Sea of Galilee. The two fishermen were casting their nets into the water when Jesus approached them and invited them to follow Him, promising to make His first two disciples &#;fishers of men.&#; The Bible records that they immediately left their nets and followed Him.
Centuries later on the other side of the globe two young men, Roy Fish and Malcolm McDow, also heard and accepted a like call from their Savior. Both men accepted Christ as teenagers and immediately began sharing the Gospel with all who would listen. They left their nets and set out on missions that would lead them to become Southern Baptist icons of evangelism at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Fish has taught evangelism at Southwestern for 38 years and occupies the L.R. Scarborough Chair of Evangelism. McDow has served the seminary for 21 years and occupies

Lessons learned from Dr. Roy Fish
I said at the funeral for Dr. Roy Fish last year that I believed him to be the most beloved seminary professor in the history of the Southern Baptist Convention. I&#;ve thought of him often in the last year and wanted to note some lessons he still teaches.
Lesson 1- Talent gets you admired; goodness gets you loved.
Dr. Fish was greatly talented, but the great affection he engendered was not merely because of that. I&#;ve known, I&#;m sorry to say, a few very talented teachers and preachers and denominational folks who were knuckleheads. Dr. Fish was unusually kind. He thought of others. He asked questions about others instead of just talking about himself. He opened doors and said kind words and was just plain nice. He was like the really nice waiter at Chick-fill-A (&#;my pleasure&#;) only he wasn&#;t even getting paid to be nice! I admired his talent (he was really, really gifted as a communicator), but I loved his goodness.
