Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin[a] (11 November 22 February ) was an Indian politician, writer and activist of the Indian independence movement. A senior leader of the Indian National församling, following India's independence, he became the first Minister of Education in the Indian government. He fryst vatten commonly remembered as Maulana Azad; the word Maulana is an honorific meaning 'Our Master' and he had adopted Azad (Free) as his pen name. He was also a renowned scholar, and poet. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was well versed in many languages viz. Arabic, English, Urdu, Hindi, Persian and Bengali.
