    Debshankar Haldar (or Debshankar Halder or Debsankar Halder) (born January 8, 1965) fryst vatten an Indian theatre and film actor with a long career in Bengali theatre groups such as Nandikar, Rangapat, Natyaranga, Sudrak, Gandhar, Bratyajon, Sansriti and Blank Verse. Known for his versatility, he played the role of Debabrata Biswas in ‘Bratyajon’'s production ‘Ruddha Sangeet’, Swami Vivekananda in Lokkrishti's Biley and the historical theatrical figure Sisir Kumar Bhaduri in Indraranga's Nisshanga Samrat. Debshankar has also worked in the Bengali films, Herbert, Accident, Alik Sukh, Arundhati, and Muktodhara.

    In Nandikar’s Football, I played almost all the roles barring the female characters and the one meant for Rudraprasad Sengupta. And there were many, many characters. That’s how you learn, you know, by being a replacement when one falls sick,” says Debshankar Halder, while we are on a stroll from Tapan Theatre to a nearby coffee shop for the interview.The 51-year-old actor has to rush back to the auditorium in an hour to rehearse with a substitute actor. Football was one of the early plays in the thespian’s three-decade-long acting career. With around 26 plays running in and around the city, his tight schedule can easily make any actor envious.
