The Israeli-born principal trombonist Nitzan Haroz, who quit Philadelphia for Los Angeles two years back during a period of financial turbulence at the orchestra, has been lured back by music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

The Philadelphia Orchestra announces the appointment of Nitzan Haroz as principal trombone, effective immediately. Haroz returns to The Philadelphia Orchestra, where he was principal trombone from 1995 to 2012, after serving for two years in the same position with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Nitzan Haroz(né Nitzan Har Haroz) is an Israeli trombonist. He is the Principal Trombone of the Philadelphia Orchestra, having been in this position from 1995 to 2012, and rejoining the orchestra in 2014.[1]
Career
[edit]Haroz was born in Israel. His mother, Adina Haroz, is a professional harpist.[2]
He was the Principal Trombonist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic from 2012 to 2014. From 1993 to 1995, he was the Assistant Principal Trombonist for the New York Philharmonic, and was principal trombonist at the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion and the Juilliard Symphony Orchestra, where he attended school. He also played trombone in the Israel Defense Forces Orchestra and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Haroz has taught at the Curtis Institute of Music since 1998[3] and also teaches at Temple Uni

Nitzan Haroz, a native of Israel, rejoined The Philadelphia Orchestra as Principal Trombone in 2014 after holding the same position with the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 2012. Previously, he was Principal Trombone of The Philadelphia Orchestra from 1995 after serving as Assistant Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic and as Principal Trombone of the Israel Symphony and Opera Orchestra. He was also principal trombone of the Israel Defense Forces Orchestra and performed with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.
Haroz has appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra (which included his Carnegie entré solo debut, where he world-premiered Blue Winter for trombone and orchestra bygd Roland Pöntinen), the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Israel Symphony Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony, Sofia Radio Symphony, and the Fairbanks Symphony, among others, and is an active recitalist and chamber musician.
