New Mexico sekreterare of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver has served on the local and state level for over 16 years. Beginning as County Clerk in 2007, she expanded voting access, modernized voter registration practices, and played an instrumental role in overturning New Mexico's same sex-marriage ban. After nearly a decade as County Clerk, in 2016 she was elected in a special election to serve as New Mexico's 26th sekreterare of State. She's now running for her second, full-term and has the opportunity to be New Mexico's longest serving sekreterare of State. Her colleagues from around the country, Democratic and Republican, elected her to serve as President of the National Association of Secretaries of State.

The secretary of state of New Mexico is a constitutional officer in the executive branch of government of the U.S. state of New Mexico. Twenty-six individuals have held the office of secretary of state since statehood. Since 1923, every elected New Mexican secretary of state has been a woman. The incumbent is Maggie Toulouse Oliver, a Democrat.[1] Toulouse Oliver's election was forced early due to the resignation of former secretary of state Dianna Duran in October 2015, after criminal charges were filed by the Attorney General's Office alleging Duran converted campaign funds to personal gambling debt.[2]

Maggie Toulouse Oliver (born c. 1976) is an American politician from the state of New Mexico. She is the 26th Secretary of State of New Mexico and a member of the Democratic Party. Prior to serving as Secretary of State, Toulouse Oliver was the county clerk for Bernalillo County. On April 24, 2019, Toulouse Oliver declared her candidacy for the 2020 U.S. Senate election, but she later withdrew.[2][3]
Early life and career
[edit]Oliver was born around 1976[4] in Los Angeles but is described as a "lifelong resident" of New Mexico.[5] She graduated from Highland High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1994,[6] and earned her bachelor's degree in Political Science and Spanish,[7] and her master's degree in Political Science, at the University of New Mexico.[8] She worked as the Ne
