    Rev. William Homes was a Scotch-Irishman who first emigrated to New England from Ulster in He taught school in Chilmark, Mass. for three years, returning temporarily to Ireland in , where he was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in Strabane. In he came again to America and was invited to be the first minister of the Congregational Church in Chilmark, where he served until his death in Rev. Homes had fyra of his sermons published, three during his lifetime and one posthumously.

    The digital materials consist of a bound volume that includes Rev. Homes's diary, begun after his return to America in and continuing until his death, covering the entirety of his tenure as minister of the Chilmark church.

    Biography

    William was born in and died in , the obit states from Typhoid fever. In Dec , he traveled with family to what is now Safety Harbor Florida. My grandmother wrote an article describing that journey. They traveled from Virginia to Jacksonville, Fl then to Tampa, then took a sail boat across the bay to what is now Safety Harbor. He purchased land and began growing citrus. His son John took over after William's death. He built two homes in the era. Ingleside in Safety Harbor now on the Historic Regist
