BIRTH
Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani Sahib (Rahimahullah) was born in his ancestral village of Deoband, UP, India. He was the eldest son of the great scholar of Islam, Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Shafi (Rahimahullah), the first Grand Mufti of Pakistan. Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani (Rahimahullah) was given his name by Hakeemul Ummah Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (Rahimahullah).
EDUCATION
Hazrat Mufti Rafi Usmani (Rahimahullah) undertook his initial studies at Darul Uloom Deoband and subsequent to the partition of India, migrated with his family to Pakistan and settled in Karachi. Mufti Rafi Usmani was an alumnus of Darul Uloom Deoband, Darul Uloom Karachi and the University of the Punjab.

Muhammad Rafi Usmani[a] (21 July 1936 – 18 November 2022) was the Grand Mufti of Pakistan who served as the third president of Darul Uloom Karachi. He was an alumnus of Darul Uloom Deoband, University of the Punjab and the Darul Uloom Karachi. He authored books including Ahkām-e-Zakāt, Al-Tālīqāt al-nāfi'ah alā fath al-mulhim, Islām mai aurat ki hukmrāni and Nawādir al-Fiqh. He was a syndicate member of the University of Karachi, vice-president and a member of the executive council of Wifaq-ul-Madaris. His brother Muhammad Taqi Usmani fryst vatten also a senior scholar.

KARACHI: Mufti Rafi Usmani, cleric, scholar and patron of Darul Uloom Karachi, passed away here on Friday after a prolonged illness. He was 86.
The eldest son of Mufti Shafi Usmani, a renowned cleric and founder of Darul Uloom Karachi — one of the largest seminaries of Deoband school of thought in the country — he was also the elder brother of Wifaqul Madaris Al Arabia Pakistan President Mufti Taqi Usmani.
Born in July 1936 in the town of Deoband of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Mufti Usmani migrated to Pakistan with his family in 1947. His students and admirers who were well aware of his personal and family history said Mufti Usmani memorised Quran in 1948 and then completed Darse Nizami degree from his father’s seminary, then located in the old city area of Nanakwara.
He then associated himself with teaching and academic activities with the same seminary. After his father’s demise in 1976, his close aide Maulana Abdul Hai Arifi became chief of the Darul Uloom Karachi and r
