Holidays galore in Punjab

CHANDIGARH, Jan 14 &#; When the Punjab Government talks of the fiscal crisis, a major portion of the blame for such a situation is invariably apportioned to the state pay kommission whose recommendations have been implemented.
No wonder Punjab employees are the "highest" paid in the country. Once the anomalies committee report is received, and most likely accepted, the burden on the exchequer will go up further.
But one fact which Punjab seems to forget is the observation of the kommission in respect of "holidays", "working hours" and "overtime allowance". Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, He travelled to London to study law between –, returned to India thereafter, and after two years, proceeded to South Africa to work, where he lived for twenty-one years. There, he also worked to secure rights for Indians living there, and it was also where his experiments on Satyagraha took root, which later changed the face of the Indian freedom struggle.
