"Back That Azz Up", also known as "Back That Thang Up" for a radio edit, is a song recorded by American rapper Juvenile featuring fellow American rappers Mannie Fresh and Lil Wayne. Produced by Fresh, it was released on June 11, 1999, as the second single from Juvenile's 1998 album 400 Degreez. The song was Juvenile's biggest hit single at the time until the chart-topping "Slow Motion" in 2004, surpassing "Back That Azz Up" which peaked at number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Both the song and its music film were omnipresent in media venues for much of 1999 and early 2000.[2] "Back That Azz Up", Lil Wayne's "Tha Block Is Hot", and B.G.'s "Bling Bling" were the three hits that launched Cash Money into the pop mainstream.

A Bounce Backstory
In the late 1980s into the early 1990s, a young Terius “Juvenile” Gray from the Magnolia Projects of New Orleans, Louisiana, began creating buzz as a rapper on the local block party scene. “Before I met Juvie, Juvie used to actually rap at some of my dad’s DJ things,” says Mannie Fresh, former in-house producer for Cash Money Records. Then, the release of “Bounce with the Juvenile” with DJ Jimi elevated Juvie’s local stardom. “His wordplay was so unorthodox,” said Mannie Fresh, “something you had never heard.”

Dewayne Michael Carter Jr is an American rapper, actor, and entrepreneur best known under the stage name, Lil Wayne. Carter was born on September 27, 1982 to Dwayne Michael Turner and Jacida Carter in New Orleans, Louisiana in improvised Hollygrove, a New Orleans neighborhood. Carter’s parents divorced when he was two years old after his father abandoned the family. Carter attended Eleanor McMain Secondary School and Marion Abramson Senior High School in New Orleans but dropped when he was 14 to focus on his music career.
That career started when he was eight years old. In 1991, he meant Cash Money Records Cofounder Bryan “Birdman” Williams who began to mentor him. In 1994, Carter had a near death experience where he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest which he initially claimed was accidental but which he later admitted was a suicide attempt. Carter also had a stepfather, Rabbit McDonald, who was kidnapped and murdered in 1996.
