Michael Thomas Flynn (born 24 December 1958) is a retired United States Armylieutenant general and convicted felon who was the 24th U.S. national security advisor[2] for the first 22 days of the first Trump administration. He resigned in light of reports that he had lied regarding conversations with Russian ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak. Flynn's military career included a key role in shaping U.S. counterterrorism strategy and dismantling insurgent networks in the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars, and he was given numerous combat arms, conventional, and special operations senior intelligence assignments.[3][4][5] He became the 18th director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in July 2012 until his forced retire

Biography
Lieutenant General Michael T. Flynn is a native of Middletown, Rhode Island and a 1977 graduate of Middletown High School. Mike was an excellent scholar and an outstanding athlete. He was captain of the Rhode Island State Champion Middletown High School football team as well as President of the Student Body. He entered the University of Rhode Island in 1977. Mike was a stalwart on the varsity swimming and water polo club teams where he earned All New England and All East honors on the latter team.
He was a four-year enrollee of the Army ROTC program, a three-year ROTC Scholarship awardee and earned honors as an Army ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management Science and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Corps.
