Freedom of the press has been thrust back into the spotlight after the White House barred the news agency Associated Press from attending presidential news conferences.
It's one of many prominent actions taken by the second Trump administration against the press, coming as the State Department confirmed it would cancel existing press subscriptions, and the culling of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) which funded independent media initiatives in countries without a free press.

Andaleeve Rahman Partho deported to jail
A Dhaka court Friday (2 August), sent Bangladesh Jatiya Party BJP) chairman and former member of parliament barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho to jail after end of his three-day remand in a case lodged over vandalizing and setting fire to the Setu Bhaban in the capital's Banani area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam passed the order as police produced Partho before the court and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the end of probe in the case.
Earlier on July 30, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam had placed Partho on three-day remand in the case. Earlier Partho was placed on five-day remand in the same case on July 25.
The detective branch (DB) of the police arrested Partho from the capital's Baridhara area on July 24.
